Essay Examples on What is Art Essay Example
Essay Examples on What is Art Paper 1st Essay Sample on What is Art Art is a very ambiguous subject. It has an abundance of meanings. Many people have different definitions of art. Most people think that art is a drawing or painting of some sort. I think there is more to art than just drawing or painting. For example, furniture can be art because people took time to think what shape or design a piece of furniture should be. They had to use their imagination to create an object significant enough for people to admire. That is one thing I consider art even though not many people think of art that way. In my opinion, I think art is ones ideas, feelings and imagination. Art is usually a work done by one or even several people. Art does not require skills. A 5-year old painting of a rainbow can be considered art. Art can be images that are good, bad, ugly, pretty, big or small. When a person performs art, such as a painting or sculpture, their imagination strikes in and helps create the piece of art. Sometimes, it is ones feelings that he/she cant expres s physically therefore expressing it on paper or a sculpture. Other times, people just create art pieces or drawings for fun and enjoyment. One may also create an art piece that symbolizes something. Stories can also be depicted by art. For example, many Paleolithic art cave paintings are said to depict stories. Its very hard to define art in one sentence or even in an essay. Each person may have his or her own definition of art. One person may think art is basically drawing but others may think that art is more profound then just slapping paint or crayons on a piece of paper. For me, art is a piece created using imagination and thought. 2nd Essay Sample on What is Art Art has been a part of our life for as long as humanity has existed. For thousands of years people have been creating, looking at, criticizing, and enjoying art. I would like to address three questions: what is art, what is its purpose, and why has it survived for this long. First, what is art? Humanity has faced this question for many centuries. How can we distinguish between fine art and a beautiful poster? How can we call both Malevichs Black Square and Da Vincis La Joconde art, yet not include some peoples paintings into this category? I believe that the only things that distinguish these works are the artist and the artists objective. The connection between what the artist means to achieve and what he achieves through the medium is what I believe classifies art. If what the artist meant to say is understood by at least one person in this world, when we can safely call that piece art. What classifies a masterpiece, however, is when not only one person understands what the artist was trying to say with the piece but when the majority does. Many people believe that the fine arts are elitist. Nevertheless, art is not something that you have to study to understand and enjoy. Art is something that captures the eye. Whether the artist is trying to communicate an emotion, an idea or something else, the most important thing is how well the audience receives it. However, art can also be shocking, something new. If a creative piece by an artist can spark the discussion of whether that piece is art or not, then it is art. Art is something that inspires people, something that transports us into different realities and moves us into the subconscious places that we did not know existed. What is the purpose of art? Art has some very practical purposes. ARPANET essays
ARPANET essays The USSR launches Sputnik, the first artificial earth satellite. In the late 1960s the U.S. military was desperately afraid of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. The United States formed the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) within the Department of Defense to establish a bombproof network to connect military bases. ARPANETs physical network was established in 1969 to enable universities and research organizations to exchange information freely. The first two nodes that formed the ARPANET were UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute, shortly after the University of Utah was added to ARPANET. The Network Control Protocol (NCP) was initially used as the ARPANET protocol, beginning in 1970. By 1971, a total of 23 hosts at 15 locations were connected to the ARPANET. The following year, the first international connections occurred, linking the University College of London (UK) and the Royal Radar Establishment (Norway) to the ARPANET. The way ARPANET was set up is so that if one of the network links became disrupted by enemy attack, the traffic on it could automatically be rerouted to other links. Fortunately, the Net rarely has come under enemy attack. In the 1970s, ARPA also sponsored further research into the applications of packet switching technologies. This included extending packet switching to ships at sea and ground mobile units and the use of radio for packet switching. Ethernet was created during the course of research into the use of radio for packet switching, and it was found that coaxial cable could support the movement of data at extremely fast rates of speed. The development of Ethernet was crucial to the growth of local area computer networks. The success of ARPANET made it difficult to manage, particularly with the large and growing number of university sites on it. So it was broken into two parts. The two parts consisted of MILNET, which had the military sites, and the new, smaller ...

Choose 1 Topic - Essay Example Here we are going to discuss about the globalization strategies implemented by Toyota in its production line. Company Overview Toyota, a Japanese automobile manufacturer having headquarters at Toyota, Japan was founded in the year 1937. It started its production operations in America in the year 1957. For more than fifty years, the Toyota automobiles have continuously expanded their operations in 170 countries and regions throughout the world. Today, it has its presence in the major markets of North America, Europe and Asia. With the development of their exports the firm has started to localize their production bases, keeping pace with the policy of "producing vehicles where the demand exists". Presently they have 51 production bases in around 26 different regions globally (toyota-global.com). Moreover, there are R&D and design bases in almost nine locations in the foreign market, exhibiting that "from development and design to production, as well as sales and service, Toyota has now achieved consistent globalization and localization." Production System The company has gone through several hurdles while globalizing their production units. One of the most important factors of this process is quality assurance, which emphasizes on the statement, ââ¬Å"no matter where Toyota vehicles are made, they must have the same high level of quality." The company doesnââ¬â¢t follow the policy of putting a "Made in The USA" or "Made in Japan" tag on their products. Instead they prefer to put the label of "Made by TOYOTAâ⬠on all its vehicles. This clearly defines the companyââ¬â¢s manufacturing philosophy which is the "Toyota Way" and they like to advertise themselves in this manner throughout the world. The firm believes that through educating people they will be able to achieve quality assurance. Therefore they established the Global Production Center (GPC) in 2003 inside the Motomachi Plant in Toyota City. In addition to this, Toyota commenced regional Global P roduction Centers in 2006, in the United Kingdom, Thailand and United States to perform its respective activities in the Asia-Pacific, North American and European regions. The illustration below shows its design and production houses in several regions of the world- The production process of the company is based on two main principles which are continuous improvement and respecting the employees. Toyota's production system is a means of "making things" which is often known as "lean manufacturing system" or a "Just-in-Time (JIT) system.â⬠The production system has been set up on the basis of constant improvements, with the aim of "making the vehicles ordered by customers in the quickest and most efficient way, in order to deliver the vehicles as quickly as possible."à The companyââ¬â¢s production process is based on two models- "Jidoka" that refers to mechanization along with some human touch. It implies whenever an issue arises, the apparatus stops instantly that prevents defective production. "Just-in-Timeâ⬠concept where every process makes the particular part that will be required by the next process and in this way the production flows. Based on these two concepts, Toyota globally produces exactly whatever is in demand within time and in a cost effective manner. Objectives The main objective of Toyota is to offer world class quality and to meet the customerââ¬â¢

Human Resourse Manager Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Human Resourse Manager - Essay Example Many companies manage the transition but experts conclude that they usually have it rough with when making changes thus need to make improvements. The design of the experiment is based on the transition that occurs to management in any given business. Failure to management transition may occur in an organization when scientists believe that skills for supervision are learnt through experience. Benefits expected in this experiment include description of supervision opportunity to the intended management candidate. This is very important because the supervisor understands the fact that science and supervision in any given work is not a dangerous misconception as believed by majority. The supervisor understands that when recruiting any employee in whichever field one has to consider the mix of science and supervision if it is workable. Another benefit is that, the supervisor is enlightened of the organizational needs that are constantly changing as a result of technical obsolescence setting in thus need to update his schedule to counteract or adapt these changes. The experiment also aids in considering the additional of supervisory responsibilities which inhibits scientists or engineers role. This directs one to determine whether or not that person has shown the interest in the work dedicated. For this experiment, a random sample of 30 employees will be used considering the size of the company. The samples will be drawn from all five departments - six from each function of the company. Such a sample is expected to be truly representative of the companyââ¬â¢s population of workers. The variables or factors in this case will include age, gender, experience level, and field of work. A random sample is used since it is easy to use compared to a probabilistic sample. When conducting the experiment, non-responsiveness of respondents may hamper progress and lead to unreliable results. In addition, there may be cost constraints which may reduce the limit of the

CIS206 U3 Discussion - Coursework Example Windows is made up of FAT and NTFS filesystems whereas Linux has a variety of files systems most that you can boot from the network. Its not easy to run out of memory in Linux because it has swap partition that is different from the partition containing data. The latter is not the case in Windows (Carpenter, 2012). In addition, Linux filesystems have a lot of recovery tools as compared to windows. There are many file systems in Linux including xfs, ext3, ext4, ext2, and jfs. These filesystems have different advantages and disadvantages thus the preference of one over the other. XFS has its data layout the same way it is in ext2, ext3, and ext4. However, it has a journal and consequently increments btree management of meta-data. The latter case leads to poor performance especially when in managing meta-data in files and directories. A positive outcome is read enactment. XFS also has an excellent performance when handling read and write at the same time. It is one of the filesystems that has been tested and fine-tuned over a long period. Further, it has incredible features that include xfs_fsr a defragmenter that is very simple to use (Hudson & Hudson, 2006). However, it is only possible to increase the size of the XFS but its not feasible to reduce that size. Thus as a precaution it is advisable to start with a smaller size. Ext4 evolves from ext3. It has the advantage of writing in a journal before updating the file system. It has made it good in recovering from crashes. It also adds wonderful management to adjacent data in files. Its performance in reading is good. Since it is very recent, a lot of tests are still underway. An administrator imposes a disk quota system on a Linux server so as to distribute the disk space among the users or groups according to their usage needs. It is also important in determining the number of directories and files that the

Project Management in Film Industry
Project Management in Film Industry Project Management for Media Introduction Television production industry proffers many benefits while practicing the project management, involving technical advancement, developed methodologies, quality management, or come across important setback s with promptness. These points lead to increase difficulty and density of the process of production. In spite of problems and complexity inbuilt in TV production industry, it is continuously flourishing. It is possible for TV production to manage the projects with experience, dignity and excellence within the available resources, expertise and large amount of experiences (Ika, 2009). Excellent project management becomes important or essential for the demanding nature of the TV production. Form the view point of the project management, the TV production industry proposes many prospects. Exploration and Critical Analysis TV or Film Production to Qualify as a Project In the culture of production, expert investigates the culture and belief system practices and the behavior of production workers including those who in top position like producers, directors and below the line workers like editors, gaffers and camera operators in the production industry. Then analyze the situation, description and practices with the help of which workers or labors can make sense of their work, criticize the TV and film industry. Industry continuously depict itself and its process of the production to the local people, workers and giving them ideas about the production industry which are surrounded in their daily routine practices which they create (Yates, Paquette, 2011). For any project for which to be qualified, it is mandatory that firm or media house must have the feasibility report which indicates the flow of activities to be carried out. For example the newly built TV production has intention to make the TV serial about any societal issues, it should at least send the proposal to the interested parties. The newly built TV house must have all the necessary facilities or set of the number of technical devices and operatives machineries that is used in the TV production (Yates, Paquette, 2011). Also when the proposal are sent to interested parties, TV production house makes it compulsory for all interested media outlets to meet the requirement that includes the experts producers, cameramen, editors and latest machinery and equipment that is used in the process. According to Madden (2012), TV production house might make certain decision keeping the demand of pace of work in which project is to be completed. Skilled workers means that able and competent producer should be part of the TV production house who have a vast amount of knowledge and information about the every step and activity which are supposed to be more helpful in the completion of TV serial. Similarly, in the completion of TV serial, number of elements related to human workforce exists like actor, co-producer, cameramen, light engineer, sound engineer and others. When the human job role is particularly defined then tasks to be done become more easily and without any trouble a successful journey starts towards the completion of TV serial (Madden, 2012). It is more imperative for TV production house must use the latest technology and sophisticated devices for production purpose. TV or Movies of Hollywood use the latest technology which makes the production and off-camera activities easier. The use of newly arrived technology also helps the production house to make any kind of changes dueling the production processes. It will enhance the viewership with great admiration. Technical labor is also requisite for TV industry as minor mistake during the phase of project related to TV serial can cause in bringing huge financial losses and can happen to stall the project. Therefore, along with the skilled and technical labor, another important aspect of the TV or film industry is the script writing which are to be visualized by the physical movements and image of various known actors and actress (Napier, Keil, Tan, 2009). As the scriptwriting is an art which is the sole responsibility of playwright who assembles the ideas into words and it is the role of director who bring ideas or words into physical movements of actors and actress which is highly appreciated by viewers. Animation are also used by director and producers which show the reality of object which is placed by technical team during the production set. Even the arrival of new innovative technology is bringing more revolution in the TV industry and Hollywood is the only place which is actively engaged in using new and innovative technology in every scene of movies or drama which appeal the viewers to watch. But it is up to the choice of the viewers to like or dislike in the movie or drama as ultimately TV production house can only make efforts to entertain audiences through the use of varieties of technologies but decision of either acceptance or rejection resides in the minds and hands of audience (Napier, Keil, Tan, 2009). Elements of Project Management for Successful Execution of Film or TV Production Film production is the process of film making which involves or includes various numbers of distinct levels. Film production takes place across the world with the wide range of social, political, and economic perspective by using diversity of cinematic techniques and advance technologies. Usually it involves a large number of human resources for their projects. And for creating and maintaining the quality it needs to have enormous efforts from very skilled people. And when it comes for communicating or coordinating the tasks like feedback from stakeholders across the world or across the time zone or any other things or tasks it becomes hard to look after or control the whole setup so it needs to have proper implementation of main elements of Project Management (Remidez, Jones, 2012). And for that we need to know what the main elements of Project Management are? As we all know that project management is the series of several important steps or activities which are interrelated and complex for attainment of the single goal. And the important aspect of booming project management is to see and consider the whole process interlinked. Completion of project may face constraints if itââ¬â¢s not proper planned because without proper planning, risk management, WBS successful execution of film production cannot be possible (Remidez, Jones, 2012). These elements are very necessary for the film productionââ¬â¢s successful execution. Planning For successful execution of film production with the help of project management it is necessary that planning level should be accurate and should have assured that plan is effectively and efficiently control and executed. There are some models which can be used in the stage of planning. Few examples of planning stageââ¬â¢s model are Gantt chart, PERT etc. Gantt chart A specific bar chart which shows the current progress of the project activities along with the project completion dates (Madden, 2012). PERT PERT is an evaluation program with the technique reviews; it is a planning method of networks for managing and controlling the projects like in our case film production. It has six steps. All activities should be visibly explained. Prior activities should be identified and put ting them in sequence. There should be a diagram which reflects series relationships. Each activity should be determined with estimation or allocation of time. System should be assessing by estimating the critical ways. When the project start progressing, exact activity time should be recorded so that it can be helpful in case of any adjustment and revision (Madden, 2012). Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) WBS can be defined as an oriented breakdown of work to be carryout by the team to attain the objectives of the project and can create the compulsory deliverables. For creating an excellent WBS it will need a considerable amount of time, people and energy. But the first question which comes into our mind that why is it necessary to create WBS for our projects? (in our case film production).Three reasons are there to use WBS. Firstly it gives clear and accurate picture with exclusively organize and define the scope of the total project. Secondly it assess and give the ideas for allocating the resources, assigning the responsibilities, monitoring and controlling the project (Ika, 2009). Last but not the least it helps in double checking and ensuring that there is no lacking or overlapping in the project completion. Risk Management Risk management is related to assess or measure the natural risk. It is the process of identifying, evaluating the risk and making contingency plan and developing different strategies to manage the risk in present and future. It helps in reducing the risk factors (Yates, Paquette, 2011). A proper department of risk management in film production can help them in successful execution. Conclusion In last we can conclude that no one can deny the importance of Project Management in any business whether it is TV industry or Film production or Educational sector etc. We all know that project management is the series of several important steps or activities which are interrelated and complex for attainment of the single goal. Like all industry it has very important place in film production. Without production management no one can be able to deal with the problems which they can face while dealing with others human resources, allocation of resources, assignment of the task. A Term Paper :: essays research papers
This short story term report is on the book The Best American Short Stories 1960, ââ¬Å"The Day of the Bulletâ⬠. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à It first takes place in the sixties when Stanleyââ¬â¢s wife is reading the newspaper and Stanley sees a picture of his old best friend, Iggy, on the front page. He grabs the paper and reads that Iggy has been shot. Then the story takes us back to the 1920s when Stanley saw Iggy last. Iggy loved golf, and he was always trying to save his money for a golf putter. Stanley and Iggy used to sneak off to a golf course to steal golf balls in the one of the courseââ¬â¢s ponds. Then the author shaped a picture in my mind about the last time Iggy and Stanley were there. They saw the golf club owner, Mr. Rose, beat another man. The two boys decided that they should tell the police what had happened. à à à à à When they arrived at the police station and told the chief what had happened. He did not believe them, and he called Mr. Rose and Iggyââ¬â¢s father to question them. Iggy tried to get his father to back him up, but he wouldnââ¬â¢t. He agreed that Iggy is just trying to cause trouble. à à à à à Mr. Rose (pretending to be a nice guy) gave Iggy a dollar bill saying that he paid well if he wanted to help him do house chores. Later, as Iggy and Stanley were walking home, Stanley tried to convince Iggy to give the money to his father for better use. Iggy refused to give the money to his father and commented that he wouldnââ¬â¢t because his father wouldnââ¬â¢t back him up in the first place. That night, Iggy moved away. à à à à à In a way, the message is similar to the ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t judge people by their looksâ⬠cliche, except in this case, the judgment is made by age instead of appearances. People come in all different personalities, and just because a child is younger than an adult doesnââ¬â¢t mean the child is mischievous or wrong. It may be more likely because people tend to mature as they age, but still you canââ¬â¢t judge someone by just their age. It sort of brings up the subject about people going through mental stages in their lives, and nobody is excactly the same place. à à à à à On the other hand though, I could be wrong because there is no proof in the story that Iggy has not caused trouble before.
